International Year One (UTP Stage II): Engineering is equivalent to the first year of the UM’s Bachelor of Science (Engineering) degree. As the oldest engineering school in Western Canada, the Price Faculty of Engineering prepares graduates for leadership roles with a focus on design readiness and teamwork.

Bachelor of Science (Engineering)

The Price Faculty of Engineering bachelor’s degree offers five majors to choose from:

  • Biosystems Engineering^
  • Civil Engineering^
  • Computer Engineering^
  • Electrical Engineering^
  • Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace option)^

To be eligible to progress to second year at UM, you must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours at ICM and have a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 upon completion of your International Year One (UTP Stage II). In addition, the Price Faculty of Engineering has competitive entry requirements to enter second year. Please see the Price Faculty of Engineering admissions bulletin and the UM Course Calendar regarding admission requirements for this specific program. Students who meet the International Year One (UTP Stage II) completion requirements but who do not meet the Price Faculty of Engineering’s admissions requirements and competitive GPA will be eligible to apply to either the Faculty of Arts or the Faculty of Science, subject to UM’s admissions regulations.

For entry to the Price Faculty of Engineering, you must complete university admission requirements by the deadline posted on the University of Manitoba’s Admissions page for Engineering. These requirements must be completed before this deadline to be considered for admission in September of that same year. If you miss this deadline, you may enrol in more courses at ICM or register in the Faculty of Science on an interim basis in preparation for the next intake the following year. Details will be provided on an individual basis each term, and you will be advised on selecting courses to maximize your credit transfer entitlements. Entrance to Engineering departmental programs is competitive and the minimum GPA required will vary by year and by specific specialization. Admissions is also subject to quotas.
